Bottle of Spruce Hill Winery Rainforest Red wine with label featuring a forest silhouette, Columbia Valley, 2021 vintage.

2021 Rainforest Red

Columbia Valley

66% Malbec, Gamache Vineyard
33% Cabernet Sauvignon, Frenchman Hills

Rainforest Red, a red wine blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, invokes the majestic Sitka Spruce of the Olympic National Forest. Malbec represents the tree’s deep and earthy roots, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides its solid trunk of dark fruit. Aromas of French oak, blackberry, and tobacco float from your glass like the scent of evergreen boughs on a hike through the Hoh Rainforest.

Pair this wine with BBQ, grilled meats, and earthy mushroom dishes.

Awards and reviews

harvest & winemaking

In 2021, the growing season was warm, with an exceptional heat dome in June that saw record highs throughout the state. Fortunately, our grape vines were not adversely affected and produced quality grapes. Our Malbec block at Gamache yielded exceptional fruit with smaller-than-average berry sizes. Our Frenchman Hills block was equally as impressive. After picking, all lots were fermented in small open-top vats. The wine was stored in once-used French barrels for 22 months before bottling in September 2023.
